7 Simple Time Management Rules That Work

If you have already read multiple books, visited time management courses, created an electronic diary, but you still feel like you don’t have enough time to get everything done, then you’ve got some wrong tips. That kind of tips, which work only in theory.

  • Define your goals. You can’t go to practical tips without defining your future goals. How fast and progressive do you want to be? What do you really want from your life now? What would you have to achieve to feel good about yourself? You should know what your big picture is, what your goals are. Define your goals into year goals and month goals.
  • Plan every day. Take at least 20-30 minutes each day to plan the activities for the next day. Don’t do your daily routine if you haven’t completed your time plan for that day. This sounds ridiculous, but the most significant time of your day is the time you schedule to schedule time.
  • One major thing rule. Do one major thing from your to-do list before you do anything else. Prioritize your list and restructure your daily regime accordingly to it. Do the truly important stuff first thing in the morning.
  • Be focused. When you’re doing an important work or something that need to be finished as soon as possible, be focused and stay on topic. Don’t check your email, phone, YouTube and other social media pages until the work is done. Block out any distractions unless you use them to generate business.
  • Write everything down. Use a paper or digital planner to write down everything you have to do, even if it is a simple promise to call somebody later or a reminder of grocery shopping. Do not rely on your head to remember everything. Keep in your mind the important work you need to do. It is okay that you can’t remember everything. And if you write it down you’re probably not going to forget it.
  • Time limits and breaks. Set time limits with regular breaks to be the most productive in what you’re doing. Define how long can you work without breaks being very productive at the same time. For example, you can work intensively for 30-50 minutes non-stop and then make a short break.

Write down a review at the end of the day. Before your day is done, look through your calendar and cross off everything you have accomplished. This will help you to analyze your productivity and define which of the tasks are more and less time-consuming.
